Ed's Picks For December 1997
These are a little late in coming out this month, and for that, I apologize. Look for a new and exciting change in 1998.
"An audience is like a broad. If you're indifferent, Endsville."

- Cool Girls Japan
A site primarily for cool Japanese girls. On the internet, no one knows you're not a cool Japanese girl. My favorite areas include the Cute Girls Room and Cool Guys Room. You can also learn about Japanese celebrities like Seiko, the Madonna of Japan and a very cool girl in her own right, with 15 number one albums in Japan.
- Emeril and Me
Most people who know me know of my fascination with Emeril's restaurant here in New Orleans, but this guy has got a fascination with Emeril on TV as some sort of antidote to The Frugal Gourmet. Emeril's is a fantastic restaurant here though, with some other locations across the US as well, though I can't vouch for those. We've eaten at the Las Vegas branch, but were really underwhelmed by the service (why would you be working in a restaurant when you could be making scads of money working in the casinos?). The N.O. restaurant is fantastic and highly recommended, but don't be intimidated by the woman who takes reservations over the phone. I think she's working out some personal issues by berating people about the dress code.
- Are You Clear of Parasites?
Not for the squeamish! Definitely don't go here before eating either. The Rogue's Gallery is my favorite part. Hey, didn't I get some crazy spam from someone like this? What is it with the parasite paranoia on the web? Hey, did you wash your hands?
- Jason Patti's Frank Sinatra Picture Archive
Hey, it's Frank's birthday this month. Those of you who have been following my
Top Ten lists for a while know of my obsession with Frank.
- The Free Pages Page
How to get free space to put up your own web page. You too can be a crackpot.
- National Zoo Naked Mole-Rat Cam
Live Naked Mole-Rats! Doing their colonial life kind of thing! Mole-rats are going to be the next big thing, mark my words. Perhaps the new trendy pet.
- The Greyhound Internet Station
Right, Greyhound as in bus. Plan your next bus trip with this interactive site and get to meet the serial killers of the future.

An Introduction to Tcl and Tk
ALERT! Obligatory nerd reference.
Tcl is a powerful scripting language that has an almost a cult-like following, including the programmers of the company I used to work for, NeoSoft. It's easy to learn and very flexible, although there are some things better done in C, or another non-interpreted language. Cool stuff, though. Even a novice programmer like me can get something usable in a few minutes. This is an easy to follow tutorial.
- The Journal of Basketball Studies
An academic approach to "The Art of Basketball," there's more science here than you can shake a stick at. Made up of semi-scholarly articles about hoops, it's great stuff to feed the mania. I wish it had more college ball articles, though. The pros always look like they're punching a clock. Those kids in college playing their hearts out, that's a game, bay-bee!
- Drop The Gloves! The NHL Fighters Home Page
That's some rough stuff.
I saw my first live hockey game a couple of weeks ago. The New Orleans Brass really can mix it up on the ice, and I don't mean with a puck. If hockey fights aren't your interest on the ice, take a look at The Science of Hockey instead.
You know you like these.
